Body Glove SUP

Stand Up Paddleboarding (SUP) is a fun, easy, and fast-growing watersport that everyone can enjoy. If offers a great full-body workout, both in the ocean surf or in wave-free lakes and rivers. This versatility makes stand up paddleboarding a popular choice for skiers, snowboarders, and other athletes looking for an exciting yet relaxing way to cross-train on the water. Paddleboarding offers great views of everything from the marine life below to the horizon beyond as you stand at your full height on the water. We’ve put together this mini-guide to help you get started. The first thing you’ll need is, of course, a stand up paddleboard.

Newcomers to the sport should pick wider, flatter boards which offer greater stability. The guys and gals at your local shop will help you find the right board based on your size and experience level. When choosing a paddle, look for one that feels comfortable in your hands and is approximately 6-to-10 inches taller than you are. If you plan on paddling in navigable water, you’ll need a personal flotation device (PFD) to be worn at all times. If the weather (and the water) are sufficiently warm, you can wear boardshorts or a bikini. Many paddlers like to wear a rashguard in warm water, which also provides excellent sun protection. In colder water, you’ll need a wetsuit.
