Body Glove Founder Bob Meistrell's 81st Birthday Dive

Bob Dive

Bob Meistrell’s diving career started 68 years ago with an eight-and-a-half foot dive in a swimming pool in Booneville, Missouri. For his recent 81st birthday he was diving again and this time diving for himself and his twin brother Bill Meistrell who passed away three years ago. For this birthday Bob kicked his way down 162 ft. on a dive double his age in ocean depth as a way to celebrate his 81st birthday.

The idea, Bob said, came from a conversation with his nephew, Bill Jr. Bob said he’d like to dive twice his age on his birthday, and Bill Jr. suggested he do 81 ft. for himself and another 81 ft. for his brother. The dive was a total success and Bob even dropped down 10 feet further than planned to 172 feet so he has a few years covered

Naturally, Meistrell has bigger plans for next year. He has a new submarine commissioned that should be ready by his 82nd birthday. "Next year, I’m going five times my age, 400 feet," he said. “But I am going to do it on my submarine.” Check out the Body Glove Blog for more photos and videos.
