This win marks the biggest feat for this young 20 year old Hawaiian, and an impressive beginning to his professional career. Yesterdays win puts Ezekiel Lau in 35th place in the ASP world rankings.
“We’ve seen this coming for a long time.” says Body Glove Vice President of Marketing, Scott Daley. “Zeke has been one of the greatest competitive surfers since his early days in the NSSA when we started sponsoring him. Without a question his upbringing and education has played a key role in his success. Body Glove is proud to have Zeke a part of our family.”
In the final heat, Raoni Monteiro, past World Cup of Surfing champion came out to an early lead. Lau battled back with a late tube ride to take the lead. His two wave combination (8.67 and 6.83) of 15.5 held off Hobgood with 14.3; Monteiro with 12.33, and Morais with 7.16.
“To win at Sunset feels incredible.” says Lau. “It’s always been a dream of mine to win a major event in the triple crown and to have it actually happen is pretty amazing. I’ve had a long hard year competing on the QS and to have my first major victory come at home is the best thing I can think of. I couldnt have done it without the support of my family, friends, and sponsors!”
